Document Description
A Conditional Use permit for a septage handling and dewatering facility with a currently load of 1.6 million gallons per year (mgy) and a capacity of 4.5 mgy. At the higher capacity, an estimated 18 vehicle trips to the site could be expected. Septage handling and dewatering describes a process whereby effluent liquid waste is removed ("dewatered") from the solids prior to disposal. This process occurs within secure containment systems (tanks and containment bunker) and is not exposed to the environment. The dewatered septage "cake" is to be transported to an approved off-site location, currently Gerlach, Nevada, to be utilized by a commercial nursery. The effluent liquid waste is to be treated at the McKinleyville Community Service District (MCSD) wastewater treatment plant. The applicant is also seeking variance approval to address sideyard setback locations for the current office and garage/shop. Both structures are located within the required 30-foot side yard setback. A Special Permit will be required to reduce the setback from the Streamside Management Area as well.
